The post office exam, otherwise known as the Clerical Abilities Exam, is a test given prior to employment with the postal service. It is a required portion of the whole application process in which you will have to go through and is usually given to those who are seeking data entry type positions.

A high score on this test is very important because there are a lot of people applying for these same jobs, making competition very tough. Scoring way above the required minimum is important to secure employment consideration.

If you already know this you are probably left wondering what it is that you can do to ensure you score as high as possible on this test. Studying, as with any test, is very important. Try getting your hands on a good postal exam study guide and do as many practice problems as possible.

Don't pay a high price for a study guide though because it should be fairly easy to find one that is just as good that is much cheaper than that. Be sure you get a study guide that reviews both the clerical and verbal portions of the test and also provides problems you can practice on. First hand experience with the same kind of problems will help you retain the information more than just reading will.  You can also apply for a postal job before you take your postal exam.

While studying is probably the most important element you will also want to make sure you get plenty of rest before you go take the test. Sitting up all night cramming in all the information at the last minute will leave you with a much lower score than taking your time and going to bed early so you are fully rested.

Try to control your nervousness and anxiety as well. If you get too stressed prior to taking the test you might find yourself rushing during test time or not reading things clearly which will cause you to choose the wrong answer. Lastly, focus on the task at hand and do not let outside distractions get to you. Constantly looking out the window or thinking about what is going on at home is never good during a test and often results in us not remembering a thing we studied.
